Robin Roberts of ABC’s Good Morning America is quickly becoming one of my heroes.
I am a newsy type of chic, but I’m not a fan of GMA any more than I am of the Today Show. I actually watched The Early Show on CBS in Miami, and I watch Good Day NY now. At any rate, I have tuned in to a few of Ms. Robert’s interviews with Beyoncé, Chris Brown and most recently President Obama. But I have never made it a point to watch unless there was buzz about the show.
Well, the buzz today was about Ms. Robert’s sharing her recent diagnosis of a rare blood and bone-marrow disorder called MDS. If you guys remember, Ms. Roberts beat breast cancer less than five years ago. Now she is vowing to beat this too.
Her courage to share this news is remarkable. But her show of faith is awesome and prayerfully inspirational.
A dear friend of mine has a mom that is currently experiencing what may be a complication to her breast cancer treatment. So I’m writing this with her mom on my mind, my aunt that passed from complications of her breast cancer treatment, and all breast cancer survivors that may be experiencing their own complications of the treatment. My prayers go up for all of you.
I’m sure you’ve all heard of the 10/90 theory that says: Life is 10% action and 90% reaction.
I believe it may be easier for me to say this since I am not a breast cancer patient or breast cancer survivor, but I do believe our reaction is based on our attitude. For me, attitude is ultimately based in my faith which is not based on the facts, but the truth.
If you believe in the truth – your truth, then you don’t have to accept the facts of your diagnosis, your failures, your finances, or any other circumstances that point to a different reality. Life is 90% of what you make it today, tomorrow and every day forward. Don’t let the 10% that was made for you yesterday detract from your faith even a little bit. Believe it, Receive it, It’s yours!
Kudos to Ms. Robin Roberts…the type of role model all women of color on TV can aspire to be.
